How to Use Lip Liner

I go through phases of makeup obsession. My current obsession: LIPS. Which brings me to my tutorial for today - How to Use Lip Liner.

What is it? Lip liner is a product that adds longevity to your lipstick, lip gloss or lip stain. Lip liner gives lip color something to adhere to giving the color more staying power. It also helps to define the shape of your lips for that perfect pout.

Liners should always match your color, either a shade lighter or darker than the color of your choice. For example, one would most likely not use a black liner with a dusty pink color. Instead, opt for a color within the family of pinks and is a close match to your dusty pink.

You might be thinking, "Do I need to buy a lip liner for every single lip color I own?" Luckily for those of you who have 20+ colors, the answer is no. To save your wallets, opt for universal neutrals that are a shade darker or lighter than your natural lips!

Because lip liners can be quite drying for my lips, I like to put on some lip balm before starting my makeup routine to let the balm absorb for an even smoother finished look.

Defining Lips

This is the time to set the shape of your lips! Begin by outlining the shape of your lips. If you'd like your lips to be a bit fuller, barely over-draw around the perimeter of your natural lips. Careful not to overdraw as this will make your lips look overdone!

Do the same on the top lip paying special attention to the cupid's bow for clean lines. The angle of your lip liner will help immensely while in this area. Use the side or flat edge of the liner (not the point) for more control

Fill in the Lips

Use the liner to fill in the lips - top and bottom. You should look like you have lip color on at the end of this.
