How to Unclog a Blocked Toilet (Without a Plunger)

Today my toilet got clogged. Because I only have 1 toilet and the need was high, I had to quickly think of something to unclog the toilet. After some Google research I came across a way to unclog the toilet with simple household items. I would like to share this with you!

To unclog a blocked toilet yourself you need:

  • A clogged toilet :)
  • Hot water
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • A kettle or a container that can hold hot water

In order to be able to carry out this way, it is important that there is sufficient space in the toilet for a few liters of water. If this is not the case, there is unfortunately little else than to start with getting some water out. In that case: good luck!

  • Boil one and a half liters of water.
  • Pour the water into a pan or kettle.
  • Add a few drops of dish soap.
  • Give it a stir.

Never put boiling water in a toilet! There is a chance that the temperature differences will cause a crack in the toilet bowl.

  • Pour the mixture into the clogged toilet.

Give the mixture some time to absorb into the blockage. In some cases it goes very quickly, but I recommend to wait about 5 minutes.

A good excuse for a cup of coffee!

Flushing

In my case, after a few minutes it can be seen that the water level has dropped. Now the toilet only needs to be flushed to push the blockage away. Flush several times. This will prevent the blockage from settling further down in the pipework, now everything is still smooth due to the mixture.

This method can be repeated a number of times. If it still does not work, it must unfortunately be mechanically unclogged.

I hope this Instructable is useful to you here. Good luck!
