How to Turn a Pen Into a Water Gun
I'm a homeschooled 14 year old and the other day I designed this water gun using an office pen. Hope you enjoy!
Supplies
1.Pen(I'm pretty sure you could use any pen but the tip of the pen needs to be able to come apart from from the ink tip. Picture above)
2.Super Glue
3.Hobby Knife
4.O ring or electrical wire(I didn't have an O ring so I used some 24 gauge wire insulation instead)
5.Wood(popsicle stick or balsa)
6.Skewer
7.(Optional) Pin vise hand drill
8.(Optional) Hacksaw to cut the pen more easily
Disassembly
(Ignore the motor in the first picture)First step is to take it apart. The first picture is how the pen looks normally. The second picture is it taken apart as much as I needed to.
The Plunger
It depends on the length of your pen but I cut my dowel to to 3 1/4"(pic.1). I also cut the end off of the pen as seen in the right of picture 1.(it was about 1/4" from the end) I then cut a circle of wood and glued on the piece I just cut off(pic.2) and glued the dowel into that(pic.3)(I did use some wood glue here to kind of fill the gap between the dowel and the plastic but that's optional). I then took the actual end piece of the pen(the yellow piece that goes inside the end), cut a hole in it, and slid it onto the dowel(pic.4). Now you can glue the O ring or the wire insulation on to the end.(pic.5) The insulation actually worked surprisingly well!
Finishing
All the finished pieces are in picture 1 and it's pretty simple assembly(pic.2). I didn't glue the yellow part of the plunger piece in just so I can let it dry out and what not. This works just like a real water gun, put the nozzle under water, pull back the plunger, take it out of the water, and shoot it. This looks almost exactly like a regular pen and if you want to you could even paint the dowel black to make it look like ink. Let me know down below if you make it.:)
