How to Tie a Tie (Double Windsor)
Pull Your Collar Up
Aligning the Tie
Here is where you'll align your tie. This will determine how long your tie will be. There are two ends of the tie, one thick and one thin. Right handed people will usually have their thick side in their right and and the thin side in their left, vise versa for lefties. The longer the thick side of your tie is, the longer your final tied tie will be.
Wrap the Thick Side of the Tie Over the Thin Side
Feed the Tie Behind and Through the Loop Around Your Neck
After, your tie should again be in front of everything. The thick side should now be in the left hand for righties and vise versa for lefties.
Wrap the Tie Around the Back of the Knot
After wrapping the tie around the back of the knot, the thick side should now be in your right hand again, like always vise versa for lefties.
Feed the Tie From the Front Into Your Neck Loop and Behind Everything
After feeding the thick side through, your tie should have its backside showing. It's kinda hard to explain but utilize the pictures if you're having trouble.
Shaping the Knot
Pull the thick side of the tie down and pinch, pull, and loosen the tie in order to shape it into a triangle shape like in the second picture.
Wrapping the Knot
Wrap the thick side of the tie, to the left (vise versa for lefties), over your nearly finished Double Windsor knot. Once the thick side is wrapped around the knot and is in the back of the knot, feed the thick side through the tunnel created by the wrap around the knot. Try the keep the wrap tight because if it gets loose, your final knot will look loose and sloppy. If you have trouble, look at the pictures.
Done!
Phew... That took a while to explain. If you didn't get it the first time, keep trying! You will surely get it! I'm only 14 and I have learned how to tie a tie so I'm sure you all can learn it with some practice and dedication.
Anyways, stay classy with your new tie!
