How to Tie a Cafe Knot for a Tie
The cafe knot is a casual knot that can be a fun alternative look from from the standard Windsor knot. Follow the 11 steps in this guide to learn how to tie this knot!
Drape the Tie
Pull the collar of your shirt up and drape the tie over your neck with the narrow end longer than the wide end. Depending on the length of the tie, you may need to adjust the length of this step so that your tie is parallel to your belt.
The First Cross of the Tie
Cross the narrow end of the tie over the wide end.
Under and Through
After you have crossed the tie, bring the narrow end under and through the opening of where your neck is.
The Second Cross of the Tie
Then cross the narrow end under the wide end.
Over the Front
Next, continue by bringing the narrow end over the front of the knot you have created so far. This should not go through the neck opening but instead just overlap the knot while switching sides.
Under and Through the Neck Opening
Take the narrow end and place it under and through the neck opening.
Under the Wide End
Then bring the narrow end under the wide end again.
Over and Through the Neck Opening
Now take the narrow end and place it over and through the neck opening.
Lift the Tie and Locate Loop
Next temporarily lift the wide part of the tie over your shoulder and you will notice that there is a loop formed underneath the the knot you have been making.
Narrow End Through Loop
Pull the narrow end through the loop you have located and continue to tuck the narrow end through the keeper loop.
Adjust the Knot and Push It Up
Adjust the positioning of the tie to make it look as ideal as you want. Then hold the wide part of the tie with one hand and push the knot up to your collar with your other hand.
