How to Teach Your Hamster About Getting Good Exercise!

I am an animal lover. I have a hamster and three cats. I have had my hamster for two years. My hamster was lively when he was little; now, not so much anymore. That's when I decided to get him a hamster ball so he can run around at home. It went well at first, but later on, he knew the living room and kitchen too well. Later on, I realized that he wanted to run around outside the house. I slowly let him run around on the grass, and he seemed to enjoy it and still does today!

Supplies

  1. Flat, grassy area
  2. Hamster
  3. Treats (to attract your hamster to get out)
  4. Hamster Bowl or anything you carry your hamster

Starting a Healthy Work-out

It can be hard to find a flat area that has grass. It's best to have a flat area so the hamster can run around more freely without getting tired from going up and down. Try to find a grassy area that is overall flat. Even though having enough exercise is good for your hamster, don't forget that hamsters are nocturnal, or sleep in the day and run at night. I would suggest getting your hamster out and about around 4 or 5 in the afternoon so the hamster can get to a healthy time to go out. Some hamsters prefer to stay indoors; some like outdoors. If you want your hamster to run outside the house, get a hamster ball; a hamster ball can keep your hamster safe and out of trouble. It can also help your hamster to run around more, but try to keep the ball on a concrete area since it won't do so well on the grass.

Getting Your Hamster for a Good Exercise

Let your hamster go outside slowly to the location. Some hamsters are just very curious about the outside world, so the hamster will just go out freely, while others, not so much. Other hamsters are cautious and slowly find their way out to discover what is ahead of them. If your hamster is scared, try to attract some of his or her favorite treat, like sunflower seeds or a type of fruit or vegetable. If you slowly let your hamster get out of the comfort zone, the hamster will sniff around and explore the grassy field. Just make sure you keep an eye on the hamster and don't let the hamster out of sight or alone.

If you keep this routine, your hamster will learn to get used to it and enjoy going to more places.
