How to Teach Your Dog to Sit and Shake (In 1 Day!)

Welcome people of the outdoors.

In this instructable, I'm going to show you how to train your dog to sit and shake in just a day.

To train your dog to sit and shake, you'll need a few essentials:

1. A dog of course. Mine is called Max he's around 5 months old : )
2. Some tasty pellets: To reward the dog after each trick
3. A Comfortable Dog Collar
4. A chain: So your dog doesn't get too distracted
5. A Dash of Patience: The secret ingredient to successful training

To train your dog to sit we will use these steps:

1. Manual Sitting

- Gently push your dog into a sitting position while saying "sit."

  - Immediately reward your dog with a treat (pellet) and praise.

2. Repetition

  - Repeat the process of manually positioning your dog into a sit and rewarding it.

  - Do this a few times until your dog starts to associate the word "sit" with the action.

3. Independent Sitting

  - Now, say "sit" without physically guiding your dog.

  - If your dog sits on its own, immediately reward it with a treat and praise.

4. Consistency and Patience

  - Continue practicing, gradually reducing the number of treats while maintaining verbal praise.

  - Over time, your dog will sit on command without needing a treat every time.

By consistently reinforcing the behavior and gradually reducing the treats, your dog will learn to sit on command quickly.

To train your dog to shake hands, follow these steps:

1. Initiate the Action

  - Gently take your dog's paw in your hand while saying "shake."

  - Immediately give your dog a treat (pellet) and praise.

2. Practice Repeatedly (You might have noticed I switched location, this step took a while lol )

- Repeat lifting your dog's paw and rewarding them several times.

- Do this until your dog begins to connect the word "shake" with the action.

3. Encourage Independence

  - Now, say "shake" without touching your dog's paw.

  - If your dog raises its paw on its own, give a treat and lots of praise.

4. Maintain Consistency and Patience

  - Keep practicing, gradually giving fewer treats but continuing with verbal praise.

  - Over time, your dog will shake hands on command without needing treats every time.

With consistent practice, your dog will soon learn to shake hands on command.

We are now ready to go...

I no longer need to show him the pellets to make him obey my order. Now, I would make the request and he would happily do so. I will then of course proceed to pet him for such good behaviour.
