How to Take Apart a Non-Alkaline Battery

A Non-alkaline battery is a source of zinc and carbon rods.

You will need:

needle-nose pliers

non-alkaline battery

paper towels

gloves

Remove the Plastic Cover

Use needle-nose pliers to remove the plastic cover on the battery.

Take Off the Zinc Layer

Use needle-nose pliers to undo the crimped zinc at the postive end of the battery. Then peel the zinc layer off.

Remove the Carbon Rod

Using needle-nose pliers, pull the carbon rod out of the encasement. Be steady or the carbon rod will break.

Remove the Top From the Carbon Rod

Holding the carbon rod with a paper towel, use the needle-nose pliers to pull the top from the rod.

Storage

Make sure to wrap the carbon rod in a paper towel to prevent a mess.
