Studying properly could not only improve your academic performance but could also improve your life performance too because this is a template for a proper routine. Since studying is all about a proper routine, this guide will demonstrate a sound routine for studying and be able to get nice grades on those tests.

Supplies

Paying Attention

The first thing about studying properly starts with paying attention in class. It is important to pay attention and concentrate on what the teacher is saying. Practicing active listening will help with note-taking and allow for an easier understanding of what the teacher is covering. Staying clear of distractions during class time such as phone usage, friends, and/or social media will allow for easier concentration on the material the teacher is covering. Paying attention in class and avoiding distractions during the allotted class time will help with making sure that notes are complete. It is important that the notes taken during a class are complete. This allows for an easier time studying because the notes contain complete information. If the notes are incomplete ask questions to friends or the teacher in the class. Another important thing is to not be afraid of asking questions. After the lesson is taught raise a hand and ask questions if something is unclear. If asking a question is too uncomfortable write a note containing that question as a reminder. Then ask the teacher the question after class.

Preparing for a Studying Session

Once class is over now we need to make a study schedule for after school. When making this schedule, take note about what needs to be accomplished during this allotted time. Think about what kind of questions would be on the test and the topics that were covered during your class. Set a specific goal for each individual study session. This would include how many topics you cover each session. Designating a study stop is crucial to studying effectively. The best study spot would be a well-lit, quiet, and low traffic-area. This limits distractions for your mind and allows for more and easier concentration to the task at hand. Having an organized and clear workspace will help reduce the stress of looking for notes. Everyone has different needs that must be accommodated in their workspace to allow for maximum concentration.

Time to Study

Time to Study

Once the scheduling is complete and there is a designated study area, you must now use that allotted time effectively. After school, take the completed notes and review them and expand on them. Reviewing notes helps move covered material from your short-term memory into long memory. This helps to take those big tests. Talking to teachers is another great way to study as well because they can expand on subjects or clarify and questions that might come light when studying. Little short breaks should be integrated into your study schedule. Short 10-15-minute breaks allows your brain a little rest. This helps the brain retain what it had just learned. Condensing notes can help deal the overwhelming stress of all the notes. Working with classmates encourages interaction with different ideas on the subject and keeps the brain engaged on what you are trying to learn.
