How to Stew Apples

Hey Guys,

Today we are going to make stewed apples. When apples are really cheap we normally buy lots of apples so we can stew them and put them in the freezer. You can have them on your breakfast or make an apple crumble or have them as a side for a desert, they are so yummy!

Right lets get stewing :)

Prepare Apples

First off you want to get your pots, apples and your apple peeler out and ready to go. We used two big pots and a smaller one for the skins. Depending on the amount of apples that you are going to do you may need more less pots.

We like to fill up our sink with water and wash the apples that way.

I would highly suggest wearing an apron or something when peeling your apples otherwise you will get really sticky!

Pealing and De-coreing

If you have an apple peeler then use that but if you don't you can use a hand peeler to peel the skin off and then cut the core out and chop in pieces. You don't have to peel them at all if you don't want to.

Core and peel all of you apples putting the apple in the two big pots and the skins in the little pot.

Adding Water

Once your pots are all full with apple, add about five centimeters of water at the bottom.

Cooking

Put them on the stove with the lids half on and bring to a boil. Once they are boiling leave them to boil for around 2-3 minutes then push the apple/skins down into the water, put the lids back on and turn the heat off and just leave to cool down.

Mash and Puree

Once your skins have cooled down, puree them until smooth. Add your skins to half the apples (like we have done) or to all your apples and mix together. Now if you want you can puree your apples or just mash them with a potato masher until they are as smooth or as lumpy as you like. We have left ours quite chunky.

Bag Up

When you have finished mashing and pureeing your apples you can put them in bags and freeze them in the freezer until you need them.
