How to Sketch a Nose in 10 Steps

Although it’s fairly simple, many novice artists find it difficult to draw human noses. Follow these instructions to sketch a nose using the basic shapes we see in everyday life.

Supplies

All you need for this is paper and a pencil. For this demonstration, I used cartridge paper from my sketchbook and a mechanical pencil.

Draw a Triangle

Draw a right triangle.

Draw a Circle

Draw a small circle on the bottom left corner, with the circle beginning at the pointed end of the triangle.

Draw an Oval

Draw a small oval beside the circle on the bottom right corner of the triangle.

Draw a Line

Draw a curved line connecting the two shapes at the bottom of the triangle.

Erase Parts of the Design

Erase parts of the circle, oval, and triangle like the photograph depicts.

Make Another Angled Line

Begin a line parallel to the slope from the rounded part of the left hand corner.

Erase Things, Again

Erase the sloped line that you drew in step 1.

Extend the Curve Out

Extend the curve as shown in the image.

Add Space for the Nostril

Erase the piece of the line that connects the left and right corners.

Draw the Cupid's Bow

Draw a slight curve extending down to represent the cupid’s bow.
