How to Set Up Your Memory Book

Are you like me, desperately trying to remember all the good times you've had in your life? If so, you're probably mentally spent after attempting to cram every single detail into your long term memory. So how to remember? How to reminisce? Enter the Memory Book. To all you fellow Bullet Journal practitioners, it may seem like a spin-off. For all of you who have read Mockingjay, you'll probably recognize this to be similar to Katniss' book. Wherever you recognize this from, I can guarantee that it's essential if you want to remember all those precious moments.

Gather Materials

You'll just need a pen and notebook for this project. I would recommend a Moleskine notebook, because of its durability, but any notebook with the dimensions 5 * 8 1/4" will do. If you don't own a Moleskine notebook, steps 2 and 3 will catch you up on the features included in a Moleskine notebook. If you do own one, you can skip steps 2 and 3.

Notebook Travel Notes Label

Since travel is when most good memories are made, this is essential to the making of your memory book. My Moleskine notebook came with a label where you can record all your travels. Since I'm pretty sure most notebooks don't have that, I included two separate PDFs of the label.

Print the PDFs and cut the label out. Glue the PDFs to a piece of card stock and fold along the dashed lines. Apply glue where it says "apply glue here," and attach the tab under the section that says "notebook travel notes." The label should be able to fit around your notebook if it is the right size.

Hidden Back Pocket

My notebook also includes a pocket located at the back of the notebook. It's perfect for storing little knickknacks and pictures you don't want to glue down to a page.

Cut a piece of card stock measuring 9 1/4" by 16 1/4". Fold it in half horizontally.

Cut two strips of card stock measuring 1 1/8" by 3 7/8". Fold the two strips in half.

Glue the two strips to the sides of the folded card stock, creating a mini pocket.

Glue the pocket to the back of the notebook, in the inside of the back cover.

The Index

This is modeled after the Bullet Journal's index, and will act as a table of contests for your memory book.

On the first three pages of your notebook, write the word index in the middle of the top of the page. Remember to number the pages you write on 1,2, and 3.

Your First Entry

Before we go into anything crazy, let's write down some basic information about ourselves. Your name, date you started the Memory Book, etc. This will be your first entry.

Log it into your Index, as pictured above. You can name it anything you want, but I decided on "A Little About Me."

You can jot the information down in any format, but if you need any ideas, look at the PDF provided.

If you want a more detailed piece, write a journal entry, describing the information provided in the PDF. I wrote down both a journal entry and Fast Facts entry. To log both in, I simply added them under the "A Little About Me" tag in my index, as shown above.

Using the Memory Book

You can use your memory book to jot down anything you want to remember. As you can see from the examples above, you can write about your family, your vacation trips, etc.

The Memory Book can take any form you want. Remember, it's your book. Customize it the way you want to. Just remember: number the pages, log it into your index, and have fun with it.
