Have you been wanting to learn how to do the splits, but every time you try it just hurts too bad? Well, I have the solution for you! After following these 10 easy steps, you will do the splits like a pro!

Supplies

You do not need any supplies to do the splits! Just yourself and a brave, confident mindset! So, choose your favorite leg, and let's begin!

Lunge

First, you do a wide lunge, by bending your front leg and straightening your back leg. You want to be sure your knee does not go past your feet to ensure a 90-degree angle.

Fourth Position

This second stretch is unofficially named "fourth position". You come up from your lunge keeping your feet grounded and straighten both legs to the best of your ability. Be sure to keep both hands on the ground!

Repeat

The third step is to go back and forth repeating these two steps until you feel that you are ready to move on to the fourth step!

Drop Your Knee

Next, let your knee drop in your lunch for some relief. Remember to keep both hands on the ground!

Elbows Drop

Now, you want to lean your upper body as far forward as possible. Depending on your flexibility level, you could let your elbows drop to the ground to further stretch your leg muscles.

Return to Lunge

For the sixth step, you want to return back to the original lunge position you started with. Remember that your knee cannot go past your feet and must be at a 90-degree angle, as to not injure your knees.

Bend Back Leg

Now, you want to pull up your back foot as close to your thigh as possible. You should feel this stretch in your quads. If you are longing for more stretch, move your front foot forward and lean further into the stretch.

Return to Lunge

For the eighth step, you will return once again to the original lunge stretch you started in. This will help you to better transition into the ninth step.

Pigeon Stretch

Now you will transition from the lunge into what is called the pigeon stretch. You will keep your back leg entirely on the ground while bending your front leg. Think of it like the splits with one bent knee.

Slide Into Your Splits!

Now that we have properly stretched, you can slide into your splits from the pigeon stretch. All you have to do is straighten your front leg and square your hips off. Squaring off your hips means making sure your hips are not facing your right, left, or even diagonal. Your hips must be facing forwards. Make sure you point your toes and keep both legs as straight as possible. If you're feeling extremely confident lift up your arms to test your balance!
