How to Rotate Tires

Today I will be showing you how to rotate the tires on a Chevy pickup. This should usually be done every other oil change on most vehicles. This is something that is very important and that everyone needs to do especially if you want your money’s worth out of a set of expensive tires.

Supplies

The supplies needed to complete this process is a car jack, four jack stands or blocks if you do not have jack stands, the correct size socket to fit the lug nuts, a breaker bar, or an impact to remove the lug nuts and to put them back on, and a torque wrench. https://youtube.com/shorts/b7OffUkzeXY?feature=share

Jacking Up the Vehicle

To start off the process go around the vehicle and break all the lug nuts loose before it is off the ground. The jack will then need to be positioned in a sturdy place under the vehicle then start to jack it up just enough, so the tires are off the ground.

Place Jack Stands

Once the vehicle is off the ground take the jack stands or blocks and start placing them securely under the vehicle. The vehicle may have to be jacked up in four different places to place all the jack stands.

Removing the Lug Nuts

Now that all the jack stands are placed under the vehicle, so it is off the ground start by going around and removing all the lug nuts. It is very important that the lug nuts are placed in a safe place so that they don’t get lost. Now begin to remove all the tires but keep them close to the spot where they were placed on the vehicle.

Place Tires on the Vehicle

Once all the tires are off it is time to place them in the correct place on the vehicle. For this rear-wheel-drive pickup the back tires will stay on the same side they came from and move straight to the front. The front tires will go on the back but on the opposite side they came from. The front driver side tire will go on the back passenger side and the front passenger side tire will go to the back driver side of the pickup. It is now time to place them back on the vehicle and put the lug nuts back on the studs just enough, so the wheels don’t fall off the studs.

Tighten the Lug Nuts

Now the tires are on the vehicle it is time to get a breaker bar or an impact and tighten up the lug nuts. It is important that the lug nuts get tightened in a star pattern. This pickup has six lugs so the star pattern would be to start at the top then skip one then tighten the second one and repeat this step until all the lugs are tight and do this on all the wheels. When everything is tight jack up the vehicle and remove all the jack stands or blocks. Once the vehicle is back on the ground take a torque wrench and torque each lug nut to the suggested torque spec for the vehicle. Every vehicle has a different torque spec so if you do not know your cars torque spec it can be found in the vehicles owner’s manual. Now that all the lug nuts are torqued the process is complete and the vehicles tires have been successfully rotated.
