How You Will Reset the RAM for Your PC

Necessary background: This requires little background in computer hardware.

Motivation: If your computers stock a boot cycle or will not boot, this may be the only way to fix it.

Estimated time to complete: 15 Minutes 

Items needed: 

  • Whatever the relevant tools are to remove the cover on your PC.  
  • A clean work station.

Supplies

Take a picture of Cables and RAM and their slots, you can refer back to this when reassembling to insure proper placement.

Powerdown

Powerdown and then unplug your desktop, this keeps both you and your equipment safe.

Begin

Movie your computer to a suitable workstation, and remove the case panel to get access to the RAM.

Remove RAM

Push down on the tabs on either side of the RAM till it clicks out. Place the RAM on a soft cloth and in a safe place. Wait 60 seconds after removing RAM, this will ensure a full reset.

Tips

Be careful and deliberate with your hardware, mistakes can be expensive.

Replace RAM

Reinsert your RAM in the same slots they were removed from. (Refer back to your photo to ensure proper placement) You will need to push firmly, so ensure the teeth of the RAM are aligned with your motherboard RAM slots.

Tips.

RAM should be in slots separated by one spot.

Cleaning Up

You can now reattach your computer panel.

Plugging in On

You can now plug all of the capes back in their appropriate locations, do not power back on yet. You can refer to the photos to insure proper placement.

Powering On

You can now turn your computer back on, keep in mind it will take more time to start up then it usually does and this is normal.

Congratulations you are finished, after reading through this instruction set you should have a PC with reset RAM, and your PC should be powered back on and working better than ever.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting: If you are having problems please ensure and check the following:

  • Ensure that all cables are hooked back up
  • Ensure that any external power controllers are turned back on
  • Ensure that the ram is firmly inserted into their appropriate locations (the tabs on either side of the RAM should be flush against the side of the stick)
