How to Repair a Plastic Watch Band

Watch companies often include inexpensive, weak plastic watchbands with their watches so that they break after a certain amount of time. That way consumers have to buy a new watch just because the band breaks. This Instructable will show you how to repair the band so that you do not have to buy a new watch (or band).
Supplies

- Broken plastic watchband
- Contact cement similar to this:

- Four small pieces of cloth (I used cloth from an old shirt)
- Duct tape
Cement and Cloth

- Duct tape one side loosely attaching the 2 pieces
- Turn over and brush cement on both sides of the break.
- Place cloth on both pieces of the watchband, attaching them together.
- It is ok to leave space between them. This will create a hinge at the main stress point.
Brush on Extra Cement

- Brush extra cement on top of the cloth..
Repeat on Other Side

- Remove duct tape
- Brush cement on the other side of the watchband
- Place cloth on it
- Brush additional cement on top of cloth.
- After it is dry, further secure it by placing 3 staples over the space between the two pieces.
- Use a magic marker to color it black so that it matches the original color.
Duct Tape Back

- Place duct tape on the back of the watch band where it touches the skin. If you don't, it will cause a rash where the plastic cement touches the skin.
