How to Repair Scratched Alloy Wheels
In this instructable we are going to show you how to easily repair common wheel damage in just about 30 minutes.
What you need:
What you need:
- Silver alloy wheel paint
- Automotive spray primer
- Automotive spray clear coat
- Glass cleaner
- Scuff pad
- Cleaning towel
- Fine and coarse sandpaper
- Masking tape and paper
Clean Area
Clean the repair area using some glass cleaner and a clean towel.
Sand Area
If the damaged area is near the wheel lip, mask it off before proceeding.
Using coarse sandpaper sand out the scratches, cuts or jagged edges until they are completely smoothed out.

Scuff Area
Scuff about six inches around the repair area.
Mask Area
Mask off the wheel using tape and butcher paper or newspaper to protect it from overspray.
Apply Primer
Apply 3-4 light coats of primer, trying to avoid spraying an area that you did not sand. If you do scuff it out using your pad.
If there are any bumpy spots, wait 10 minutes and sand them down using fine sandpaper.
When you are finished wipe away any dust.

Apply Paint
Though 9 out of 10 wheels can be repainted with pure silver, test the spraypaint out on a small portion of your wheel to see if it matches. If not, gradually add some black paint and re-test until you get a match.
Once you are ready, mist it on to blend the repair in.
If you end up getting paint on an area you did not want to, like the wheel or lugnuts, just wipe it down with some paint thinner or nail polish remover.
