Figuring out how to put on and properly secure your motorcycle helmet can be tricky as a beginner. Following these steps will make you a pro in no time. Eventually, you wont even have to think about the process, it will be second nature!

Supplies

Motorcycle Helmet

Put the Helmet on Your Head

Before you can do anything, you have to get the helmet on your head. Make sure the helmet is in good condition and is the right size for your head. It should not move excessively while on your head, but it also shouldn't be too tight. The helmet should rest on the top of your head. If you have a full faced helmet, make sure your chin is not poking out the bottom of the helmet.

Feed the Long Strap Through the Rings

Now that you got the helmet on your head, it is time to secure it. On your helmet there will be two straps. One strap will be short and will have two metal rings attached to the end of it. The other strap will be much longer and will sometimes have part of a snap button on it. All you need to do is feed the longer strap through both of the rings of the other strap. Make sure none of the straps are twisted and you're one step closer to getting on the road!

Bring the Long Strap Back Around

This step is the one that messes everyone up at first. I recommend practicing this step in the mirror until you can do it without looking. Grab a hold of the long strap that you brought through both of the rings. Now, bring the long strap over top the first ring and then immediately back through the second ring. After this, you can pull the long strap to tighten both straps. The straps should be snug enough to keep the helmet on your head. They should not be so tight that its uncomfortable but they also should not be too loose.

Secure the Excess Strap

Most helmets have a snap button on the long strap so that you can keep it from flying in the wind. Simply line of the button on the end of the long strap with the button at the base of the short strap and snap them together.

Time to Ride
