How to Polish Black Leather Boots
Hi, my name is Eh Ku Dah and I am a Law Enforcement student. Law enforcement students are expected to have well-polished boots. My boots have taken many compliments from many people including my instructor. I have 7 months of experience with polishing my boots. Over the course of those 7 months, I have conducted experiments and researched how to get the best overall shine. Today, I plan to give you tips on what to do and not to do when polishing boots and how you can impress your friends.
Supplies
· 1 pair of black leather boots
· 1 horsehair brush
· 1 ball of cotton
· 1 wax-based black shoe polish
· 1 water bottle
Brush Off Debris
To start off, grab the horsehair brush and one of the boots. Use the horsehair brush to remove dirt and debris off the boot because having dirt on it can reduce the effectiveness of the polish and damage the boot during the polishing process. When all the visible dirt and debris is gone, set the boot and horsehair brush off to the side.
Put Polish on Cotton Ball
Next, open the shoe polish and set it aside. Grab the cotton ball and rip off 2 pieces that measure 2 inches each. Roll one of the ripped pieces into a ball and rub it into the shoe polish in a circular motion to get the maximum amount of polish. Once there is enough polish on the cotton ball, grab the boot you set aside in the previous step.
Put Polish on Boot Using Cotton Ball
Use the cotton ball with polish on it and gently apply it onto the boot using a circular motion to get the maximum amount of polish on it. When the entire area is covered in polish, repeat this step 3 more times to get layers of polish on the boot. This step is important to get a good shine on your boot. Once there are 4 layers applied on the boot, set a timer for 15 minutes and wait for the polish to dry.
Buff the Boot With Cotton Ball
When 15 minutes have passed and the boot is dry, take another one of the ripped cotton ball pieces and roll it into a ball and scrub the polish on the boot in a circular motion until there is no more polish to scrub. The boot should now look a little shiny. Set the boot off to the side.
Dampen a Cotton Ball
Take the water bottle and pour the water into the cap of the shoe polish. Take a previous ripped cotton ball. Submerge the cotton ball into the cup of water. Once it has absorbed the maximum amount of water, take it out and use your hand to squeeze all of the water out of it until it feels damp. This is important because too much water will make the boot scuff during the spit shining process.
Put Polish on Damp Cotton Ball and Polish Boot
Next, take the damp cotton ball and gently scrub the boot in a circular motion for 30 seconds. Once the 30 seconds is up, apply polish to your damp cotton ball then continue to gently scrub the boot with that same cotton ball in a circular motion. Continue to do this until the boot becomes clear and there are no visible streaks. Reapply more shoe polish onto the damp cotton ball and gently scrub the boot again in a circular motion until the boot becomes clear and there are no visible streaks. Repeat this step 2 more times. Finally, take the remaining cotton ball and use it to scrub the remaining water off the boot so that the boot does not sustain water spots when it does become dry. The boot should now be reflective.
