How to Poach Eggs in the Air Fryer | Two Methods | Cooking Basics

In this cooking basics Instructable I will show you how to poach eggs in the air fryer. The air fryer is one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. I use it almost every day! I rarely even use my taste anymore because I use my air fryer for that as well as so many things. It is pretty much just a mini-convection oven which is super versatile. I don't necessarily think this is the best way to poach eggs, but it works very well! I show two methods that you can try if you want to poach eggs in your air fryer. Let's get started!

Follow the simple steps below or watch the short video tutorial or to both! :)

Supplies

Ingredients:

  1. 2 eggs - you can certainly do more, I think my air fryer holds 4 ramekins, or you can do about 6 eggs in the little pot.
  2. 2/3 cup of water - 1/3 cup of water per ramekin (if using 6 oz ramekins)
  3. 1/2 tsp of vinegar - 1/4 tsp per ramekin
  4. 1 to 2 tsp of olive oil (1 tsp per ramekin)

Tools/Equipment:

  1. Air Fryer
  2. Ramekins
  3. Slotted spoon

Method 1: Ramekins

Prepare the ramekins by adding a little bit of olive oil on the bottom and sides. You will need oil to help keep the poached egg from sticking to it. But sometimes it still sticks no matter what you do. The reason is that the ramekins are not deep enough to allow the egg to float off the bottom.

Then add the water and vinegar, it should be about 2/3 of the way full. Don't fill it up too much because the egg will take up room as well and you don't really want it to boil over. However if some water boils over don't worry, it won't affect the air fryer basket.

Crack an egg in each ramekin, or crack the egg in as separate bowl then pour it into the ramekin, this helps to catch any egg shells.

Poach Those Eggs

Now add the ramekins to the basket of the air fryer and then air fry at 375F/190C for about 7 to 10 minutes depending on how you like your yolk cooked. You may want to preheat the air fryer first as well.

Use a slotted spoon to gently remove the poached egg from the ramekin and serve, after seasoning it with salt and pepper of course :).

Method 2: Deeper Pot

This next method is more similar to the stovetop method. Add about 4 cups of water to a 4 inch deep oven safe pot that fits in your air fryer. The pot I have is 3 inches deep and 7.5 inches in diameter and works perfectly in my air fryer.

Heat the water in the air fryer for about 7 minutes at 375F/190C.

Poach Those Eggs

Now remove the basket and crack the egg or eggs into the hot/boiling water. Put the basket back in the air fryer and heat for 3 to 6 minutes depending on how you like your yolk cooked.

This method takes longer in total because you have more water that you are heating up.

Serve those eggs!

Final thoughts: Again, I don't think this is necessarily the very best way to poach eggs, but it does work really well, and since I love using my air fryer, I like this way haha.
