How to Play: UNO War

I simply made this game because I was bored, so I made this card game. It does use Uno cards if it's not obvious already. It's a 2 player strategy game in which the goal is to wipe out all your opponent's cards first. I'm sure you will like it 🙃 (First post btw!)

Supplies

  • A standard Uno playing card deck
  • A map with 3x4 grid (Optional)

Card Ranks

Color ranks are as listed, left is weakest while right is strongest - blue, green, yellow, red

Number ranks are - 0 is weakest, 9 is strongest.

Full ranks, left is weakest while right is strongest - blue 0, blue 1, blue 2, blue 3, blue 4, blue 5, blue 6, blue 7, blue 8, blue 9, green 0, green 1, green 2, green 3, green 4, green 5, green 6, green 7, green 8, green 9, yellow 0, yellow 1, yellow 2, yellow 3, yellow 4, yellow 5, yellow 6, yellow 7, yellow 8, yellow 9, red 0, red 1, red 2, red 3, red 4, red 5, red 6, red 7, red 8, red 9, Wild.

Wild cards have a special property, they cannot move at all. But they can take out any card within their range, and move into their spot. That is how they move.

Setup

IMG_20230420_091117.jpg

Shuffle the deck of cards, and deal the cards to the 2 players. The full deck is split in half, and each player gets half of the deck. The deck is placed in front of the corresponding player. A 3X4 grid shall be placed down, each long side of the grid facing the players. Your summon pool is on the right of your deck, and your dead zone is on the left of your deck (We will explain what those are later.).

Movements and Attacking

Movement - Each player draws 2 cards, and places it on their side of the board in whichever 4 slots. They take turns, cards can move 1 slot on their turn. Only 1 card can be moved on a turn. Once a card has been placed, it is allowed to move to the other player’s side of the board. The middle of the mat is nobody’s side.

Attacking - Cards cannot attack a card above it’s rank. For example, a green 7 cannot attack a red 4, but the red 4 can attack the green 7.

Dead Zones and Summon Pools

Deadzones - Once your card has been taken out, it gets put into what is called your deadzone. Each player gets their own deadzone. After placing the card into the deadzone, you draw a card and place it on your side of the board. You proceed to take your turn.

Summon pool - Cards can only be placed in summon pool through ability cards. A card that is in summon pool can be placed at any time, which allows for more than 1 card of your own on the mat. Your summon pool goes on the left of your side. Once a card has been summoned from the summon pool, your turn ends. If you get 2 ability cards in your summon pool, you can put the 2 ability cards back into your deck, and bring back any card of your choice from the deadzone and put it into your summon pool. Once you sacrifice 2 ability cards and you bring back a card from your deadzone, your turn ends.

Ability Cards

Ability cards have special properties. This page will list how all the ability cards work. Ability card colors do not matter, they are the same rank no matter what.

+2 - Add 2 cards to your summon pool.

+4 - Add 4 cards to your summon pool.

Block - You take 2 turns.

Reverse - move one of your opponent’s cards.

Swap hands (optional) - swap decks with your opponent.

Custom wild (optional) - revive a card from your dead zone.

And that is how you play! Thank you for reading this post. I have seen another person who's game is similar to mine, which is this one: https://www.instructables.com/How-to-play-a-2-4-player-turn-based-war-strategy-g/

I made UNO War before I saw their post. They did not copy me, nor did I copy them.
