How to Perform a Scalp Analysis on a Client

Scalp Analysis is an examination of the scalp. You can look for dandruff, redness, and irritation. You can also check for hair loss or breakage and talk to the client about a healthy hair routine. Give them recommendations and tips.

Divide the hair into 4 sections to expose the scalp fully.

Place a clean towel lengthwise and take the 2 diagonal corners, and fold the towel in half, then cross and tuck the ends under the chin.

Use a waterproof salon cape to secure the towel over it and fasten it in the back. This is to ensure it does not touch the skin on their neck.

Analysis

Take the 4 parts and gently slice them up and down with your rat tail comb to check the condition. Look for redness, unusual bumps, oil build-up, and visible flakes. Focus on the hairline, around the crown, and under the ears.
