How to Peel and Core a Tomato

Peeling and coring tomatoes is a very important step for many culinary items esp canning.

Here is a quick way to peel and core tomatoes the easy way.

Prepare the Hot Water Bath and Ice Water Bath

Get a pot of boiling water together. This will be used to loosen the peels.

Then prepare an ice water bath.

Heat the Tomatoes

Place the tomatoes into boiling water for about 1 minute.

Make sure the water is constantly boiling, and be careful not to get burn from the hot water.

Remove the Tomatoes and Cool

Use tongs to remove the tomatoes from the boiling water. Place them into an ice bath. The peels should begin to split.

Pick the tomatoes out of the ice bath and hand peel. The peel should come very simply due to the heating and cooling. it is ok for some to remain by the core since it will be removed anyway in the next step.

Core

Using a sharp knife, move in a circular motion around the core. Once the top is carved into a circle use the tip of the knife to pry out the core.

Your tomato is now down and ready for what receipt waits for it.
