How to Paint Hand Holding Rose

Here, I painted a hand holding a flower. In this instructable, you will learn how to paint one as well, step by step. Follow the instructions as you proceed with your art carefully, as it is very easy to make small mistakes.

Sketching the Base

For Step 1, you're going to want to sketch the base of your hand. Using your pencil, draw two upward lines at the bottom of your canvas. Then, make a wide oval to connect them. This forms the arm and wrist. After completion, you'll want to draw a palm-shaped box for the base of the hand.

Forming the Fingers

In Step 2, you will begin drawing the fingers. But first, in order to fix that palm, make sure the right side of it is curving inwards. I had to fix that personally, and you might too. Using a pencil, draw small circles where the fingers would be for the joints. That's 1 circle to the side, and 4 on the top. Next, you are going to draw more circles at the ends of where you want the finger to bend. Then draw ovals to connect both those circles on the same plane. It should look something like the picture shown.

Positioning the Hand

In step 3, you will finish sketching the hand. Take your pencil and begin to draw fingers as if they are enclosed around something. The average finger's tip should end around the center of the palm. Enclose the thumb over the fingers. You will have to erase around a bit in order to get the fingers more prominent.

Drawing the Rose

In Step 4, you will draw the rose which the hand is holding. Draw 2 lines drooping downwards on each end for the stem. You should erase around the fingers to make sure it looks like those fingers are enclosing around the stem. Sketch a rose at the end. An easy way to do this would be to draw curved lines around the end of the stem to form petals.

Painting the Rose

Get out your paints. Mix any sort of green tone you think would be appropriate for a stem. Paint the stem. Using some whites for highlighting and darker shades for shading would be recommended. At the end of the stem, use various shades of red for your rose petals. Add any sort of leaves or vines you may like. Allow the paint to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Painting the Hand

Mix any skin tone variation of paint you'd like for the hand. Begin to outline the pencil markings of your hand and fill them in. Shade appropriately with different shades of the color you are using. Make sure your thumb is still overlapping the other fingers in the painting, and that you are going over the stem with paint to allude to the hand holding it. When the paint dries enough, you can go over the hand and add nails with whatever color. And that's it! That's how you paint a hand holding a rose.
