Supplies
For this project you will need:
- screwdriver
- pipe cutter or Dremel (to cut the brass)
- sandpaper
- 17/32 brass tubing
- spring
- silicone grease
- spray paint
Spring
First things first, let's talk about the spring. The stock spring in the Firestrike is pretty weak, so replacing it with a stronger one will give your blaster a significant power boost. You can find upgraded springs online or at your local hardware store. Just be sure to choose one that is compatible with your Firestrike. To do this, you will need to open up the blaster by removing the screws. Once the blaster is open, you can remove the old spring by cutting off the plunger head. once you do that, you can replace it with the upgraded one. Make sure the new spring fits in the plunger tube, so it works properly inside the blaster. While you have the plunger head out, add some silicone grease to the O-ring to improve the seal. Once the new spring is in place, put a screw through the plunger head to reattach it to the plunger rod. You will also need to replace the catch spring (you can use a spring from a pen). Then put the blaster back together and test it out.
Air Restictor
Next up, let's talk about the air restrictor. The air restrictor is a small piece of plastic inside the blaster that limits the amount of air that can flow through the barrel. Removing it will allow more air to flow through, which will increase the power of your shots. To remove the air restrictor in your Firestrike, you will need to open up the blaster and locate the piece of plastic that is restricting the airflow. It is located in between the barrel and the plunger tube. Use pliers or a screwdriver to carefully remove the air restrictor without damaging the blaster. Once it's removed, put the blaster back together and test it out.
Brass Barrel
Another modification you can make to your Firestrike is to add a brass barrel. A brass barrel will improve the accuracy and range of your shots by providing a smoother and tighter surface for the dart to travel through. You can purchase some brass tubing online to make your barrel. To add a brass barrel to your Firestrike, you will need to cut the tubing to the desired length (usually between 3 or 4 inches) and smooth out any rough edges. Then, sand the stock barrel from the blaster until the brass fits. once it fits, put glue on the outside of the brass and insert the brass barrel. Once it's in place, let the glue set and reassemble the blaster to test it out.
Painting
You can also paint your blaster. Painting it is a great option to make your blaster truly unique, and yours! Just be safe and work in a well-ventilated area. When choosing your paint color, remember to use bright colors for safety reasons. Disassemble your blaster and sand it down. Spray paint works best, but you can use acrylics too. Apply several light coats, waiting for each to dry. Use a paintbrush for extra details. Once you do this, apply a clear coat to protect your new paint. Let it dry completely before reassembling.
Conclusion
So there you have it, a few simple modifications to turn your Nerf Firestrike into a powerhouse. It's important to note that some of these modifications can be tricky and may require some trial and error to get right. Be sure to research each modification thoroughly before attempting it and follow all safety guidelines when handling your blaster. Happy modding!
