How to Makeover a Footstool

Hi Instructables friends! I will be sharing with you guys a simple and fun project that even a beginner can do! Here I have a Bombay Company footstool with a dated fabric design and I will fancy it up with black chalk paint and Parisian Letter Prima Transfer.

Supplies

Here are the tools on How I Updated the Footstool

Supplies/Tools List

  • Footstool
  • Round Paint Brushes
  • Pneumatic Staple Gun
  • Canvas Cloth
  • Cotton Batting
  • Caviar Chalk Mineral Paint
  • Parisian Letter Prima Transfer

Prep/Reupholstering

To start the project, I removed the floral fabric by extracting the staples that hold it from the base.

After removing the old fabric, I proceeded to measure and cut a new fabric. I gave the fabric a size with an allowance which about 3 to 4 inches, enough to cover the footstool.

Then I added cotton batting to give it additional cushion and I stapled the new fabric. Once it perfectly fits in each corner, I cut the excess fabric.

Measure for the Center

To give me an idea of where to put the transfer, I measured for the center. This step may or may not necessary depending on the transfer you'll be using but since I am using a letter transfer, it is important to know where to put it to keep the lettering straight.

Add the Transfer

I removed the backing of the transfer and then placed it in the desired area. I rubbed it down to adhere the design to the fabric. To know if the design has completely adhered, as you can see in the photo, the lettering on the plastic turned light and the plastic was separated.

Paint

Lastly, I painted the base with two coats of matte black chalk mineral paint.

Finished Look!

I hope you enjoyed this easy makeover and inspired you! The total cost of this project is around $30 and the project just took an hour to finish(without the dry time of paint).
