How to Make the Mosquito Bomber Paper Airplane

Airplane 1.png
The Mosquito Bomber Paper Airplane is a versatile paper airplane design which can perform a number of different flying maneuvers, such as: barrel rolls, loop-the-loops, and helices. It is a fairly simple airplane design.

Required Materials:         - 1 piece of 8.5”X11” Printer Paper (A-Size)
                                        - A smooth, clean surface, such as a table

Estimated Time to Complete: 5-10 Minutes

CAUTION: The Mosquito Bomber has a sharp point on its nose. NEVER throw toward another person’s face who is not wearing eye protection.

CREATE CREASE IN CENTER OF PAPER

i. Place paper on table and align in a landscape position (horizontally).

ii. Bring TOP-LEFT corner to TOP-RIGHT corner and BOTTOM-LEFT corner to BOTTOM-RIGHT corner.

iii. While holding corners together with your right hand, create crease along the left side of the sheet.

iv. Use fingernail to sharpen the crease. (Do this for all future creases.)

v. Unfold paper and return it to original landscape position.

Once finished, it should look like the second picture above.

FOLD CORNERS INWARD

i. Bring TOP-RIGHT corner into center of paper and align the TOP-RIGHT edge along the CENTER crease created in Step 1.

ii. Hold the edge, aligned with the CENTER crease with your left hand.

iii. Using your right hand, create crease angling downward and to the right  from the top-center point (NOSE) 45 degrees.

iv. Repeat steps (i-iii) on opposite side.

CREATE BASE WINGS

i. Similar to Step 2, bring the LEFT-ANGLED crease inward from the BOTTOM LEFT corner of the crease and align it with the CENTER crease.

ii. Hold the new LEFT-ANGLED fold firmly in this alignment and create crease along the left base wing.

iii. Repeat steps (i-ii) on opposite side.

Once finished, it should look like the second picture above.

FOLD NOSE INWARD

Airplane 8.png
i. Bring NOSE to BOTTOM-CENTER and align it with CENTER crease at bottom of paper.

ii. Hold aligned NOSE with left hand.

iii. Sweep finger from the nose to the top to create crease along top.

FOLD NOSE FORWARD

i. Bring half of NOSE forward so it hangs over the TOP crease about halfway. Make sure it is still aligned with CENTER crease.

ii. Use your two index fingers to hold NOSE TIP down on the table and create crease with your thumbs parallel to TOP crease.

Once finished, it should look like the second picture above.

FOLD IN HALF

Airplane 11.png
i. Fold in half along CENTER crease, making sure the nose is between the two wings.

ii. Hold paper in hand and firmly run fingers across CENTER crease multiple times to form flat fold.

CREATE FINAL WINGS

i. Bring the LEFT WING long edge down and align it with CENTER crease created in STEP 6.

ii. Hold firmly in this alignment and create a crease for the left wing.

iii. Flip plane over and repeat steps (i-ii) with the right side.

Once finished, it should look like the second picture above.

EXTEND WINGS

i. Use one hand to pinch the CENTER crease and look directly down the length of the plane.

ii. Using your other hand, press wings upward until they are about 120 degrees apart from each other

NOTE: As you fly the plane, you may need to repeat this step periodically to adjust for the paper bending, and for various flight conditions. Changing the angle of each wing will change the flight patterns and maneuvers of your plane. Try experimenting with new wing angles for fun!

When finished, it should look like the second picture above.

FLY YOUR FULLY-FUNCTIONAL MOSQUITO BOMBER!

Congratulations! Your bomber is now finished and ready to fly. Here is how it is done:

i. Take your bomber to a large, open space - preferably with little or no wind.

ii. Pinch the CENTER crease (at the thick spot just behind the NOSE) between your thumb and index finger

iii. Hold plane near eye level with arm close to 90 degrees.

iii. Thrust your hand forward, trying to hold the plane level with the ground

iv. Release the plane and watch it soar!

NOTE: There are many different ways to throw the Mosquito Bomber and this is one effective way to do it. Try experimenting with different release angles and speed to see various flight patterns and maneuvers.

CAUTION: The Mosquito Bomber has a sharp point on its nose. NEVER throw toward another person’s face who is not wearing eye protection.
