How to Make an Origami Balloon (Water Bomb)

IMG_1659.jpeg

The Origami balloon, or water bomb, is such a fun and simple origami creation. The reason why it is also called a water bomb is because you can fill it up with water once you finish it and drop it on a victim. It is similar to a water balloon, but made out of paper! They are extremely easy to make, so you and your friends can made hundreds of them.

Supplies

All you need is origami paper and a finger ready to firmly crease paper.

But if you don't have origami paper, you can cut 6-inch square out of printer paper. Make sure to keep the edges straight.

Grab your square piece of paper, whether origami or not. Fold from corner to corner and crease with your finger to make a triangle. Then, unfold the triangle and repeat on the opposite corners. Make sure to press into the fold well to make a crisp crease.

Next, fold the paper in half so that the opposite sides are touching, and crease with your finger. Make sure the crease is firm.

Now, from the position from the previously folded side, fold in the far top edge corners into the middle where you previously made the creases in step 2. You should get a triangle with the two sides of the paper tucked under it in an X shape as shown above.

Fold both of the far points on the triangle to the top of the triangle and crease at edge it creates. Repeat on the back side. At the end of this step it should look like a diamond made up of 2 smaller vertical triangles as shown above.

Then, fold in the first layer of the tips into the center line of the diamond and repeat on the other side. For example if you first folded in the right side, then fold in the left, and vice versa. Proceed to do the same on the back side. Once this step is complete it should look like the picture above.

Next, fold the top of the shape, where the edges are loose, into a small triangle, where the long side aligns with triangle facing the center. Then fold it across that line so it overlaps the other triangle, crease it there. After, tuck in the triangle you made into the inside of the triangle pointed towards the middle, into the pocket. The pocket can be found between the 2 layers of the central pointed triangle, as shown above. Do this on both the front and back. Repeat this on the other side as well as on the back side.

Finally, at the bottom of the shape, opposite to the side you folded the triangle into the pockets, there should be a little hole, where you blow air into to finish your water bomb. This inflates the paper to look like it is a balloon.

If you want to make it as an actually water bomb, once you blow it up with air, fill it with water and finish the job by dropping it on your victim.

I hope you had fun making these! :)
