How to Make a shim for your angle grinder.
I find that some cutting wheels (especially those from hf) tend to be loose when I put them in the chuck for my angle grinder. I believe this is causes them to deteriorate quicker than they should and cause problems while cutting. So I decided to make a shim to help reinforce the grip on the wheel. I made it at Tech Shop!

Step 1:

Step 1:  Grab your angle grinder (my favorite tool, by the way), a metal washer, Stepped Metal drill bit, a drill, some files, and if you’re smart calipers, a vise would come in handy too.

Step 2

Step 2:  measure the post on your angle grinder to determine the diameter (this is optional, I skipped it but would have been fast if I did not), then throw the washer into a bench vise and clamp it down nice and tight.

Step 3:

Step 3:  Load up your stepped metal drill bit and boar out the center of the washer to the closest diameter to the post of your angle grinder. Make sure the bore goes all the way through the washer or you will have a cone shape and it will not fit all the way on the post. Once it is drilled out, test fit the washer on to the angle grinder.

Step 4:

Step 4:  If the fit needs a slight adjustment of if its fine take your files and file down all the burrs and enlarge the hole if needed. If you leave burrs on the washer it could cause damage to the cutting wheel, which could be bad news.

Step 5:

Step 5: once the the burrs have been removed and your happy with the fit, throw on your cutting disk, then the shim, and then your chuck. You will have a nice firmly seated cutting wheel.
