How to Make a Walby
Hello everyone! My name is Joseph. I'm presenting how to make a Walby! They're super cute and if you have some wire you can lengthen the legs and make them movable.
Edit: For the shape use a backstitch and for the face, anything is fine just seal it on.
How-to Backstitch: Start by sticking the needle in and comes out further on. ( ASCII: \__/ ) But then sow back to where the last stitch took place and go even further when you go back underneath. (ASCII: \==/__/) And then go take the needle and put it back to the last stitch done to go, well back. Repeat this and you got a backstitch!
Supplies
Sock
Sewing needle
Black and white thread
Black felt
Stuffing
A marking tool of some kind(I use a whiteboard marker)
Sock materials if you don't have one
Felt
Step 0: How to Make a Stand in for the Sock (optional)
I didn't need to do this so there aren't any photos. You want to fold a piece of felt in half and draw a shape like the one above. Sow along with the shape but leave a gap near the end. Cut around the area and turn inside out. Then stuff and seal. If you do this skip to step 3. Or you can go through the process if you want more detail
YOU CAN DO THIS TO MAKE A SMALLER ONE
edit: The ASCII didn't show correctly so I deleted it and uploaded a picture.
Step 1: Make the Shape
To start take a sock and draw a "UU" above the heel. The middle spike or middle curve controls the size of the legs.
Step 2: Sew and Stuff
Now you want to sew along the line you made. When you're done cut a small hole. IT WILL EXPAND SO DON'T MAKE IT TOO BIG. After you turn it inside out fill it with stuffing. Stich the hole closed.
Step 3: Face
Now you want to cut out a black felt face. Sew each one on separately. The mouth is the hardest part to do. If you can't do it you can use embroidery thread to make it.
YOU'RE DONE!!!
Hooray! You made it. This tutorial is very simple but it makes a very cute end. It also essentially teaches you that if you draw a shape on a folded piece of felt you can make it by just sowing along that line. Make some Walby's of different sizes and pose them. You can sow the feet into a sitting position or put wires in the feet so you can bend them.
