To make this solar oven, gather these materials:

  • Pizza Box
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Foam Board
  • Black Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Duct tape
  • Box cutter

Making an Opening

Of course, there has to be a hole in the base of the oven so that the sun can go into the oven to give it heat. To do this, you will need a ruler, pencil/pen, and a box cutter.

Using your ruler and pencil, cut a smaller flap from the edge of the pizza box top

Using your box cutter, follow the lines that you drew and cut the box, but make sure you leave one side left uncut (preferably the opposite side from where the pizza box opens)

Make the Inside Black

For the oven to get hot, there has to be heat trapped inside the oven. To do this, gather your black construction paper, glue, and paintbrush.

Take your glue and paintbrush and spread the glue everywhere in the inside bottom of the pizza box.

Place your construction paper and make sure to cover all the bottom and sides of the bottom part of the pizza box.

Leave the pizza box open so that the glue can have time to dry.

Making the Walls

Measure your dimensions of the flap that you made at the beginning of this project.

Using those dimensions, create another square using your pencil and ruler on your foam board. Cut the square out with your box cutter and repeat this step 3 times. You should end up with 3 foam board squares that is the same size.

Make the Walls Reflective

For this part, you will need to gather your tinfoil, glue, and paintbrush.

Use your glue and paintbrush to spread the glue on the flap. With the flap completely covered with glue, neatly place tinfoil and wrap it around the flap, making sure that the whole flap is covered with tinfoil. (Use the reflective side of the tinfoil)

Use your glue and paintbrush to spread glue on your three other walls. Do the same thing you did with the flap. (Take your tinfoil and wrap it around each other the walls)

You should end up with 4 squares all wrapped up in tinfoil.

Putting Everything Together

Using your duct tape, tape the reflective walls to the pizza box. It should be taped to the edge of the hole you made at the beginning of the project. Do this for all the three sides that have no reflective flap.

Cut a very long piece of tinfoil and tape it to one of the reflective wall. Using help from a friend, put each wall at a 120ยบ angle. Surround the tinfoil around all the edges and make sure that the tinfoil is not loose. If the tinfoil is loose, there walls would not be at an angle. At the end of the project, your solar oven should look like the pictures attached.

Congratulations! You have completed the making of the solar oven! I hope that this instructable was helpful!
