How to Make a Sock Bun

final sock bun.jpg

The sock bun is for anyone with long hair. It is an appropriate hairdo for both formal and casual events. For example, the sock bun would work for a longhaired girl who is going to a wedding or simply just to class. It’s a unique style that looks quite complicated, but actually takes no time at all. The sock bun is a fun change up that works for all hair types.

Materials

Tube sock

Scissors

Hair tie

Bobby-pins

Hairspray

The amount of bobby-pins and hairspray may vary with thickness of hair.

Find a Sock and Cut It

First, find a mid-shin length sock and cut off the toe-end at the seam with scissors. Avoid using a sock that may have any loose threads.

Put Your Hair in a Ponytail

Using a hair tie, put your hair in a tight ponytail.

Begin Rolling

At the tip of your ponytail, hold the sock perpendicular an inch from the end. Then wrap the tip around the sock as if you would a curler and begin rolling up.

Continue Rolling the Sock Up Your Hair

Continue evenly rolling your hair up the sock until you reach the base of your ponytail. Try to cover as much of the sock as possible with hair. Leave just enough visible sock to tie a knot.

Tie the Sock

Tightly tie the sock in a knot under the base of the bun. Evenly position your hair around the bun to make sure none of the sock is showing.

Use Bobby-pins

If necessary, use bobby-pins to hide any flyaway hairs. Bobby pins will also help secure the bun to your scalp if it feels loose.

Finish the Bun

Hairspray your sock bun to better hold it in place throughout the day.
