How to Make a Skateboard/Clipboard/Whiteboard

In this Instructable, I will be showing you have to make a skateboard that is also a whiteboard and a clipboard. This skateboard is portable as it fits in the average backpack. This skateboards allows students to combine the things they use into one easy device, so instead of carrying multiple things you have it all in one.

Collecting Your Materials

For this project you will need several materials including:

-Phillips screwdriver

-trucks and wheels from an old skateboard

-13 ½’’x 16’’ whiteboard (anything bigger is fine, I had mine from elementary school)

-drill with 3/16 drill bit

-saw

-clipboard clip from an old clip board or a binder clip

-pliers or skate tool

-sandpaper

To remove the trucks and wheels from an old skateboard you will need the screwdrivers and the skate tool or pliers. Use the skate tool or pliers to hold the nut on the below the truck while using the screwdriver to unscrew the bolt from the top of the skateboard. Repeat this step 7 times for each bolt and nut until you remove the trucks. To remove the clipboard clip all you need is a screwdriver, and you use it to unscrew the screws to the side of the clip. Now that you have gathered your material you are ready for the next step.

Measuring and Marking Lines for Sawing and Drilling Holes in the Board

This is the hardest and most important step in this process. You need to make sure your measurements are accurate and everything is near perfect or else your board will not work as will and it will be harder to install the trucks and clipboard clip. To begin measure out 5 ½’’ from the bottom of the board and draw a line up the board so the board is split into two sections: one that is 5 ½’’x16’’ and one that is 8’’x16’’. The smaller board will go below the bigger board and at as a support as the thickness of one board is not strong enough to hold the weight of a person. Now you will measure where you will drill the holes. For the bigger side measure 3’’ from the left side and 2 ½’’ from the top and place the top left corner of your truck there. Now use the truck to mark holes on the board, and do the same for the bottom of the board. Now you will do the same for the smaller board except you will measure 1 ½’’ from the side and 2 ½’’ from the top. Repeat this for the bottom of the smaller board. Now you will need to mark holes for the clipboard clip. Measure 4’’ from the side of the big board and .25’’ from the top and make a dot there. Repeat the same for the smaller board except make it 2.75’’ from the side and .25’’ from the top. Congratulations! You have now completed the hardest step in the process and are now ready to move on to the next step.

Sawing and Drilling Holes in the Board

For this step you will need to use the saw and cut the board on the line you drew. When you use the saw be careful and be sure to cut in a nice straight line or else your board will be uneven. You are now ready to drill in the holes. First carefully drill in the holes in the bigger board using a 3/16 drill bit. Now match those holes up with the marks you made on the smaller board and drill through them. This way you will ensure that the hole line up and are even. Now you are ready for the next step.

Sanding the Edges of the Board

This step is one of the easiest steps, but it is also the most important. It is important to sand the rough edges of the board created by sawing because it can harm you in the long run. It can harm you in the rest of the building process or when you use the board. What you want to do for this part is use the sandpaper and carefully smooth out the rough edges of the board that were created by sawing it. Now you are ready to move onto the next step.

Installing the Trucks Onto the Board

For this step you are going to do the exact opposite of what you did in the first step when you removed the trucks of your old skateboard. What you are going to need for this step is the skate tool or pliers and the phillips screwdriver. What you want to do is put the bolts through the holes in the two board. Now put the trucks on and make sure every bolt goes through the holes in the truck. Now you want to put the nuts onto the bolt and hold them with the pliers or skate tool while you screw the bolt in. Repeat this for the rest of the seven nuts and bolts until you are done installing the trucks. Now you are ready for the next step.

Installing the Clip Board Clip Onto the Board

For this step you are going to need the clipboard clip and a screw driver. All you want to do now is screw in the screws through the hole in the skateboard and through the clipboard clip. Make sure you screw the clip in tight so that it does not fall out when you skateboard. The clip will lie at the very tip of the board so that it will not get in the way of your skateboarding.

Taking Your Board for a Ride

Now comes the most fun step, riding your new board. If you completed all of the steps in this process correctly your board should run smoothly and straight. This step is important because taking it for a ride ensures it is safe. It also is a good way too test if your board is sturdy enough. If it is not sturdy enough, and it can not hold up your own weight, then you will likely have to add another layers of wood or any material as support.
