How to Make a Simple Battery Holder
Students in my maker class wrote this instructable for a simple battery holder.
This Instructable will teach you how to make a quick simple battery holder to power a small motor or use experiment with simple circuits. It is frustrating to use alligator clips with AA batteries because there is nothing to clip to and they roll around. This makes things much easier. It is simple enough young children can build it and the materials are easy to find around the house.

Supplies
You will need :
4 Nails
a piece of Wood
Hammer
1 Battery
2 Alligator Clips Wires
1 Motor
You can use old scrap wood. If you need to cut the wood find a handsaw. Here is an instructable on how to use a handsaw.
Nails and hammer you can get from any hardware store
Battery, clips and motor you can get at any electrical supply store.

Hammering
Hammer the nails into the wood surrounding the battery on all 4 sides to hold it to the wood. Make sure the + and - terminals of the battery are touching the nails.
Alligator Clips
Connect the alligator clips to the nails on the + and - sides of the battery.
Motor
Hook the other sides of the alligator clips to the metal contacts on the motor. This will turn on the motor until the battery dies or you disconnect the wires. Now you can add other things to the circuit to experiment. You can use small light bulbs, LED bulbs, motors, buzzers, and switches. The possibilities are endless. Just make sure you put something in the circuit because if you just connect both terminals of the battery to each other the wire can get hot and the battery will drain really quickly. You can make more of these and wire multiple batteries together. This a great way to start playing with electricity, Have fun!
