How to Make a Shrug and Skirt Set Out of a Sweater

If you have a close-fitting, tightly-knit sweater that you don't wear anymore, than this is the place for you! Threadheads will show you how to easily turn that sweater into a matching shrug and skirt. All you need is tailors chalk, scissors, a sewing machine, and that sweater. Cut the Shrug Out of the Sweater

This works best with a close-fitting, tightly-knit sweater!
Try on the sweater to get an idea of where you need to make your markings. Get out some tailor's chalk and draw some lines starting at the top front part of the collar and goes all the way around the back.
Once you've got your line drawn out, take out your scissors and cut along the line.

Finish the Shrug Edges

Next, finish your edge. Set your machine to a zig zag stitch and sew along the edge you just cut. This will create a nice ruffle effect also known as lettuce edging.
And you have yourself a new shrug!

Take out the bottom part of the sweater you cut off and even up the edge.
Finish the Skirt Edges

Use the zigzag stitch to finish the bottom edge, the same as you did for the shrug.
