Extra Long Sword With Paper
Hello everyone! In this Instructable, I will show everyone how to make a paper sword prop. I will demonstrate by making a katana, though you could use this process to make other prop swords(and knives). This example makes a 4ft long sword
I hope you enjoy this tutorial!

Word of caution: Do no poke at people, especially the eyes, and as this is made of paper, it may not be durable, so no hard hitting with it.
Supplies
- Lots of paper (printer is preferred because it is more durable and accessible)
- Tape
- Scissors
- Markers(optional)
The Blade Part I
These are the first few steps in making the blade of the sword. There are three parts to making the blade. One if to make the exterior, one to make an interior support, and the last to assemble. This step will show you how to make the exterior. Hold the paper in portrait style, and then fold it in half(aka hotdog fold). Then fold in half the same way again. If the paper permits(mine does) then fold it in half again. Unfold. Now by using the guide folds, cut the paper in to four similar sized sections. You then want to tape the long edges to form rectangular sections, making paper tubes(this is so that the interior supports can be added later on.) You then want to tape them together to form one long tube . You then want to make a cut, as shown here, at one end, to form the sword tip. For the last part of this step, you want to tape of the end you just cut.
The Blade Part II
For this step we will be making the inner support of this blade. This step will require lots of paper. You will have to repeat this step depending on the length of your blade. To make a part of the the support, you want to take a paper, and roll it up from one corner. Once you do this, you will get a thick tube. Quickly get some tape, and tape the loose corner before the tube unfurls, and voila, you have a support. Repeat this step to make multiple tubes, at least one more tube than the amount of pieces you have in the exterior. Then you tape them together as I show in the picture, in relation the the blade exterior.
The Blade Part III
This step is for assembly, which is simple. You want to slide the support into the exterior, on the end that is not the tip. The blade will start to puff a little. If you have completed the previous steps properly, the interior support should slide in easily. If the supports don't fit, you may have to resize them smaller to get them to fit. I have two pictures showing you how the blade looks like before and after this step.
The Handle
If you have completed the blade steps properly, there should be an excess of interior support sticking out. This is where the handle will be fit. To start the handle, you want to wrap it around the handle, and get an estimate. then mark how much paper you need with a marker, or a fold. Cut off the section, and tape the long ends together. Slide it onto the blade and tape it on. Then tape the open end shut, and you have a handle. You can wrap ribbon if you want.
The End
Here is your blade! It is delicate, and fragile, so don't fight others with it, or it will break. You can use this as cosplay, props, or anything you like(as long as the intent isn't bad).
