In this instructable you will learn how to make a self watering planter box. A self watering planter box is a small portable box with a pipe that you will be able to pour water in. With this planter box you will be able to just fill it with water and it will water itself using an efficient system.

Supplies

You will need:

A PVC pipe (For this design we used 6.5 centimetres in diameter)

A big dish liquid box such as in the design.

A bag of dirt/soil

Whatever kind of seeds you want

Tools such as a saw, drill and crafting knife.

Saw the Top of the Lid Off

After sawing the lid off make sure to give the box a thorough wash otherwise later the water will mix with the soap and kill the plants.

Drill Your Lid

Push the lid into the box upright to the very bottom.

Once done, drill 5-8 holes on each side of the lid. This will allow the water to enter the soil from the bottom.

Drill Holes on the Pipe (Optional)

Drill equally spaced holes on every angle of the pipe so the water will be able to soak into the soil. Then place the pipe on the hole of the lid.

Fill the Box With Soil/dirt

Fill the box with soil 2 cm from the top of the rim and then plant whatever you want into the planter box

Fill the Pipe With Around 7 Litres of Water
