How to Make a Scrunchie

This tutorial shows you how to make a fun, fashionable hair
tie in 25 minutes or less.
Materials Needed:
· Fabric (18 inches x 4 inches)
· Elastic (1/4 inch wide) *Note: I used a hair tie cut in half as my elastic*
8 inches for fine to normal hair
9 inches for medium to thick hair
· Needle
· Thread
· Safety pin
· Scissors
· Ruler - Optional
Step 1: Gather the Materials

Gather materials and find a clean workspace. The materials needed are a hair tie (cut in half), a safety pin, a needle, a piece of thread that is one are length, and fabric that is 18 inches long by 4 inches wide. I also found if helpful to have a scissors and ruler next to me.
Step 2: Fold Fabric in Half With Right Sides Together.

Fold fabric together with patterned or printed side put together. Fabric will be folded the long way.
Step 3: Stitch Along Opening

Stitch along the opening of the long edge and leave about a one-inch opening ¾’s of the way through the fabric. This opening is necessary for the next step when it is important to turn the fabric inside out.
Step 4: Turn Scrunchie Right Side Out.

Using the 1 inch opening turn the scrunchie right side out.
Step 5: Connect a Safety Pin to One End of the Elastic.

Run the elastic through the scrunchie using the safety pin as a guide. Remove the safety pin after you have threaded the elastic through the fabric.
Step 6: Overlap the Ends of the Scrunchie and Stitch Together.

Use the needle and thread to stitch the two ends of the elastic together. This will ensure that it does not come apart when being used in someone’s hair.
Step 7: Sew the Fabric Together to Complete the Scrunchie.

Sew the two ends together to complete the scrunchie. Once that is completed you have finished!!
