On a piece of paper, draw a rectangle. For the width, take the circumference of your head and divide it by 4. The length of this rectangle will be the height of the hat, choose from below:

Newborn/Baby: 8 inches

Toddler: 9 inches

Child: 10 inches

Teen/Adult: 12 inches

Then fold the rectangle in half and round off top corners as shown in photo above.

Use template you just created to cut out 4 pieces of fabric.

Assemble Hat

Lay hat pieces right sides together, creating two sets. It should look inside out. (If making it reversible make sure you have grouped together 1 lining and 1 main piece together.)

Begin Sewing

Stitch along bottom edge.

Matching Up

Place beanie pieces right side together. (Again if you are doing a reversible beanie make sure 1 lining and 1 main are matched up.

Sew Beanie

Sew along the edge of the beanie with about a 3/8" seam allowance, leaving about a 1-2" opening. Back stitch on both sides of opening to ensure the seam will not come loose. Use this opening to then turn the beanie right side out.

Hand Sew
