How to Make a Powerful Air Blower at Home
Creating always adds a lot of different
knowledge and experience. Recently, I am trying to make something from the 775/795 DC motor, so I will make an air blower first.
Material
- 775/795 DC motor
- Flange coupling
- Balsa plywood
- Balsa wood
- Epoxy resin
- MDF Board
- ABS board
- wooden block
- Copper Pillar
- Screws
The Impeller
I want to challenge to make the backward curved impeller.
I have no CNC or 3D printer, it is hard to make curved grooves.
I print out the graphic and stick it on thick cardboard to make a template.
I make 8 pieces of balsa wood. It can be cut with a knife easily.
Stick these on the circle board of Balsa plywood.
Since the blades should be curved, wetting and heating them,
Use the jig to clamp it for 30 minutes.
Finally, I coat a layer of Epoxy to improve its strength.
The last picture is version 1 & version 2.
Test the Impeller
It must balance or it will shake.
The power supply is a 12V battery.
I turn speed with a PWM DC motor controller to 10000RPM.
It seems to be balanced.
Maybe Balsa wood is very light, even if there is a small deviation, it will not affect.
Warning! Please do not use superglue and
MDF, It’s not strong enough.

This was my failed experience.
The Shell
I use MDF plates for the upper and lower shells.
One is to connect the motor, another should drill a hole for air intake.
Because the side surface is curved, I heat and bend the ABS board.
I hope to disassemble easily for maintenance, so I use some screws to assembly it
The Woodblock
It’s for the cut-off and can also use to connect the shell.
The inside is an arc, I tried to cut it out with a table saw, the effect is pretty good.
I insert a small copper pillar to lock a screw.
Painting
I like the yellow + black color scheme of DEWALT power tools.
Assembly
The shell is thin, with no place to lock the screws, three copper pillars to assist the connection of the shell.
Air Outlet Pipe
There is pretty cardboard on hand (MSI mousepad carton).
Turning waste into gold.
The air outlet pipe was born.
Finish
At the first, I use the blower to clean my shop.
I will apply it to the other project later.
