How to Make a Planter From a 2-Liter Bottle

As you might know, I have a love for repurposing things...

I could go on, but I think you get the point. This is another project with the same feel/theme, but a greener idea. Let's get to it!

Supplies

  1. 2-liter bottle
  2. Soil
  3. A plant
  4. 1 coffee filter

Tools:

  1. Rotary Tool with a drill attachment, cutting wheel, and sanding wheel
  2. Shovel

Starting the Planter

Grab your 2-liter and your rotary tool. Cut the bottle neck off, like in the picture.I advise you to save the bottle neck. One of the great things about this planter is that it's so customizable. If you plan to transplant your planter, cut it like I did. If you plan to leave it in the planter, cut it a little higher, to support the plant.

Drainage

Take the rotary tool again, but this time with the drill attachment. Drill 4 holes in the bottom of the planter. Put the coffee filter in the bottom of the planter, so that the soil doesn't drain out of the bottom of the planter.

Finishing Up and Planting

Sand the edges of the planter top with your rotary tool sanding wheel attachment. Get some potting soil and fill the planter, like in the first picture. Plant your plant/seed/cutting in the soil and water it.

Finished!

Good job! You're done. After a few months, enjoy the fruits/veggies/flowers of your labor!

Thank you for viewing, and have a great day.

Until next time,

BONUS STEP: Make a Watering Device

DSCN5820.JPG

If you want to build this, you must have saved the bottle neck like I said in the 1st step.

Drill 3 teeny holes in the lid of the bottle, like in the picture. Fill the neck with water. It will slowly seep out, watering the plant gently enough that it will not displace the plant. You have successfully used the whole bottle for growing a plant.
