Moss has been around for thousands of years. It's not only great for use in terrariums and for reptiles but it makes the perfect shade garden additive. Moss is easy to grow and one does not have to be a novice gardener to have a lovely garden using live garden mosses. Moss works perfectly in gardens of shade. It's the perfect plant for these areas. Moss is easy to plant, easy to grow and works well in the poorest type of soils. It also is a great protectant and ground cover when used underneath perennials, shrubs or in gardens of annuals.
The Many Varieties of Mosses
There are many moss varieties and uses for each.
Carpet Moss - This moss is used for placing between stepping stones, around walkways and anywhere heavy traffic is. Some place this type moss around swing sets and near playhouses to keep mud and dirt under control. Carpet moss is lush, thick evergreen and pliable. It works well in some sun and prefers shade.
Topiary Moss - This type moss is perfect for topiary designs as decor balls, garden ornaments and planting near walls or fences. It attaches well and is a very popular type moss. Topiary Moss is thin and easily workable in arts and craft designs.
Sheet Moss - This is also another great product to use in landscaping. It spreads easily, is super hardy and works well in a garden where a thin layer of evergreen is needed. Sheet moss spreads more moderate than most other mosses.
