How to Make a PC
Introduction:
We are going through this instruction set to learn how to build a personal computer. These instructions are a general walkthrough on where to put specific components, so you should have parts already chosen and ready to assemble. By the end of this instruction set, you should have a completed working PC ready to work!
List of Parts:
· RAM
· GPU
· CPU
· Case
· PSU
· Network Card
· Monitor (preferably with HDMI connections)
· Storage (HDD/SSD
· Motherboard
· Case fans
· Thermal Paste
· Screwdriver
· Zip Ties
· Operating System drive (OS)
Assemble Motherboard
o Insert GPU into correct PCI slot.
o Insert Network Card into correct PCI slot. (Make sure you detach the antennae before putting in case)
o Insert RAM into memory slots. Put the memory sticks in alternating order, not right next to each other. This is a convention to utilize dual channel memory. The computer will work if you do not follow this convention, but is not recommended to do so.
o Insert CPU into the processor socket.
o Install heatsink on top of the CPU, be sure to correctly apply thermal paste.
Install PSU
Install Power Supply (PSU) into the case. Use a screwdriver to secure it into place.
Install Assembled Motherboard
Install completed motherboard into the case
Connect Wires
Attach correct power cables from the PSU to the different components in the computer (different GPUs use different power cables, some don’t require a cable at all and use power directly from the motherboard).
Install Storage Drives and Fans
Install storage drives (HDD or SSD) and attach correct cables from the drives to the motherboard
Attach fans to the ventilation sides of the case.
Connect Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse
Connect Monitor using the video port. (HDMI or VGA etc)
Connect Keyboard and Mouse in the USB ports.
Power on the PC
Power the computer on to see if it runs. If it does, turn it off and proceed to the next step.
Install OS
Insert the OS drive and power on the PC. Follow the instructions on the monitor to install the OS.
Conclusion
After you set up your OS, you should be able to start using your PC and, depending on your parts, you can start streaming, playing video games, editing videos, or whatever else you have in mind!
