I know what you're thinking, everybody knows how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I understand that, but has anyone ever given you proper instructions on this? Now they have! It is very simple and requires very few supplies, but will make the best sandwich you have ever had.

Supplies

  • 2 slices of white or wheat bread (Avoid end slices and slices with large holes)
  • A butter knife
  • Your favorite type of peanut butter
  • Your favorite type of jelly
  • Napkins or paper towels
  • A plate

Setting Up

WARNING: the knife is only for spreading and cutting into bread, you do NOT need a super sharp knife. A butter knife should work perfectly.

  1. Prep your sandwich making by setting up your chef station.
  2. Get a single plate ready to put your sandwich on.
  3. Make sure you have a napkin for cleaning off the knife between uses and another clean one for wiping your hands/face when enjoying.
  4. A clean knife is also very important and crucial for the sandwich making.

Getting Your Bread

  1. Depending on personal preferences, I would say white bread or wheat bread would be the best options for this type of sandwich.
  2. When you have your loaf ready, you only need two slices.
  3. Once you have grabbed them, place them flat down side-by-side with each other on your plate.

Getting Your Jelly

DISCLAIMER: Some people enjoy jelly more than others. A bigger scoop of jelly will lead to a more jelly oriented sandwich rather than a small scoop of jelly.

ALLERGY ALERT: I like to do the jelly first because it is easier to wipe off the knife than the peanut butter. This way if there is someone who has a peanut allergy, there will be no cross contamination in your jelly jar.

  1. Now that you have your bread set up for you, it is time to add the jelly.
  2. To get a good scoop of jelly, take your butter knife and dip it into the jar.
  3. The jelly is harder to get to stay on your knife so you may need to dip in a few times before you get a sufficient amount.
  4. Transfer the jelly from the knife onto the bread giving enough jelly on the bread to spread on that side completely.
  5. When spreading, make sure the jelly covers that side of the bread completely, even including the corners.
  6. When the side of the bread is covered fully, wipe your knife clean with the napkin or paper towel.

Getting Your Peanut Butter

DISCLAIMER: Some people enjoy peanut butter more than others. A bigger scoop of peanut butter will lead to a more peanut butter oriented sandwich rather than a small scoop of peanut butter.

  1. Now that one side has been covered with jelly and your knife has been cleaned off, it is time to add the peanut butter to the other slice of bread.
  2. The peanut butter sticks a lot better to the knife, so one generous scoop should be plenty for the sandwich.
  3. Dip the butter knife into the jar to get the scoop of peanut butter.
  4. Transfer your peanut butter from your knife onto the bread to be able to start the spreading process.
  5. Spread the scoop of peanut butter on one side of the bread completely.
  6. Make sure that the whole side is covered, including the corners.

Putting It All Together

  1. Now that both sides of the sandwich have been covered, it is time to examine the work before finalizing.
  2. Think and ask yourself, does the bread look fully covered? Are there any spots where I only see bread? Do I just want more of one type of spread?
  3. If you need more, feel free to wipe your knife off again and go back in for some more peanut butter or jelly.
  4. If you think you may have put on too much, it is okay to scrape some off with the knife and discard into your napkin.
  5. If you have checked and both sides look good to you, it is time to finalize the sandwich.
  6. Take both side of bread from the underneath so you don't get anything on your hands.
  7. Bring both slices together so the peanut butter and jelly halves meet together in the middle.
  8. Make sure all corners are matching up and everything looks even.

Cutting It Up

DISCLAIMER: If you are an "eat the whole sandwich at once" type of person you can disregard this step

WARNING: This step uses actual cutting of bread, make sure that you are being careful with all of your fingers even though you should only be using a butter knife.

  1. Make sure that your knife has been wiped clean again because you will need to use it one last time in this step.
  2. You get a little bit of freedom in this step depending on how you feel like eating your sandwich.
  3. Cut your sandwich in half by cutting the bread straight down the middle or diagonally with your knife.
  4. Some people like to take small bites and eat their sandwich in fours, this would leave you with four corner pieces.
  5. If you are someone who doesn't like eating the crust, you can also cut that off, this will leave you with only the middle of the bread. You can discard the leftover bread crust.
  6. The pictures above will help show examples of the different cuts.

The Final Touches
