The first thing is to design the shape of the pencil. find the section of wood you wish to use and sketch an approx. shape. I just  picked the size and started from there.

Cut to Shape

Now just cut to shape. cut the wood from the main piece and start from there.

Drill Time

Now you need to drill a hole in one side (size of the pencil) and i recommend you drill it deep enough for 1/2 a pencil.

Epoxy!

Now prepare the epoxy. I like to use rubber gloves because epoxy is a pain to get off. Just pour a little pile of both parts and mix fully. Pour epoxy into the hole. be generous. then push the pencil in and let it dry.

Now its time for sanding. I like to use my belt sander with 80 grit. it works very well. Shape the tip into a pencil like shape. Round the backside and move into higher grits. I go to 120, 220, and 400.

I prefer to use linseed oil over anything else as it simply brings out the natural colors. Apply as generously as needed
