How to Make a Mini Red-Baron Fokker Tri-plane(With Cardboard)
I will try and make this intro quick and short.
The Fokker Tri-Plane was one of the most iconic WW1 planes. One of its flyers, Manfred von Richthofen, the "Red Baron" was the most successful WW1 pilot(also Snoopy's arch enemy!) So I am going to show you how to make a Mini Red-Baron, cause why not! But first the supplies.
You're gonna need some STICKY glue!!!
Supplies
- Scissors or Craft Blade(I used scissors)
- Hot Glue or any other Glue(I used hot glue)!!!!!!!
- Thin Cardboard(Not cereal box like, but not package box like)
- Red, Black, and White Paint(Or anything that colors on cardboard with those colors)
- Toothpick
- Ruler
Outlines, Tracing, and Cutting
This project is simple and I will not say the measurements unless you ask for them in the comments(If you do that I might even make a printable tracer thingamajig-er... to trace... and cut... out).
So to start off you're going to draw an almost raindrop style shape, three circles with their diameter no bigger than the raindrop shape, three long trapezoids(they can be as long as the raindrop shape), a small obtuse triangle, a small 90° angled triangle, and two rectangles twice as long as the circles but with the same width.
After that cut all of them out! Also cut three tiny stumps off from the toothpick and cut a sliver of cardboard a tad bit longer than the circles. Shortly thereafter cut a small piece off two of the teardrop shapes(make sure that front part is the same width as the wings). You can also cut that obtuse triangle in half.
Now just touch em' up a bit!
Gluing!!!
(PLEASE USE PICTURES AND PRESS SEE MORE, YOU'RE GOING TO NEED A LOT OF VISUALS)
To start the gluing process, glue the full raindrop shape to one of the split raindrop pieces so it forms a little cockpit. On top of the smaller split raindrop piece attached to the main raindrop piece, glue on one of the wings so its "pointing" towards the front. You can also glue another wing to the bottom of the raindrop piece. Then glue the other split in half raindrop piece atop of the first wing and tail you glued on. Then glue the two tiny pieces of toothpicks on and glue the other set of wings on top of them. Now glue the triangle tail pieces on, and, the two smaller circles on for the wheels. Also glue the last circle on the front of the plane, and glue the sliver of cardboard on that for the propeller. Finally glue the last stub of toothpick on the under side of the tail for the back landing gear "thingamajig."
Painting
I first painted the whole plane red except the inside of the cockpit and the two pieces of the toothpick on the wings. After that I painted the vertical tail white with a small black German cross on each side. Then I painted the wheels black with small white dots on both sides of the wheel. Soon after I painted two white German crosses with black crosses in them. Finally I touched the propeller with a bit of brown.
Congratulations!!! You're done! I hope this instructable was easy to understand and I will answer questions and tips as soon as I can. It would be great if you post you photos when you make it.
Till next time, bye!
