How to Make a Messy Bun

IMG_8342.JPG

This wispy and also loose bun hairstyle can be worn for special occasions or just around the house. It stays cute while being overly simple at the same time. This way not too much time is spent putting it together. It may look complicated but in just 6 steps one would be able to make this perfect bun. These instructions will show the in’s and out’s of how to make this simple messy bun.

Supplies

The first thing on the list needed is two regular-sized ponytails these will not be seen so they can be any color. Depending on the thickness of hair a bigger or smaller ponytail may be required. The next thing on the list of supplies is one little elastic ponytail. This will be used for the side braid that will run to the bun. The final two things on the list are bobby pins and hairspray. These items are optional but can be used for a bun that is wanted to stay in place longer.

Side Braid

The first step for creating this messy bun is to grab three small pieces of hair that will be used to braid. It is best to grab the pieces of hair by where the hair is parted. Once the three pieces are selected for the braid the next step is to start braiding. The braid will be more like a french braid going into the bun and will want the little elastic hair tie at the end. This side braid isn't big but will draw the eye to this particular hairstyle and give a little more flair than just a normal messy bun.

First Ponytail

After, the braid has been created the bun portion will begin. First, you will put all the hair even the braid portion into a ponytail. It is important that the ponytail is tight and steady because the bun will build around it. The portion of the ponytail will determine the height of the bun so it is a personal preference.

Second Ponytail

This step is hard to elaborate upon so follow as best as possible. Look down at the floor and the ponytail is flipped up and spread out. Place the second ponytail over the hair to create the first bun. The hair should be half in a bun and the other half sticking out. After, tuck the pieces of hair sticking out from the bun into the second ponytail. This will be done by folding the pieces of hair and tucking them into the ponytail so they stay. It is best to do little pieces at a time instead of a big chunk.

Complete Bun

After, all of the pieces of hair are tucked in the ponytail the bun is complete. It is optional but highly encouraged to pull on the bun and braid to loosen it up. This will give the bun and braid a more messy and fuller look. Sometimes pulling a few little pieces out of the bun will give it an even messier yet still cute look.

Optional

Every person’s hair is a little different. Some individual’s hair stays when doing a hairstyle and some don’t. If the bun isn’t staying spray some hairspray or place bobby pins in the areas that need it. This will help the bun stay together and last longer.
