How to Make a LEATHER PEN CASE - TUTORIAL WITH VIDEOS AND PICTURES- FREE PDF PATTERN
This craft is for novice crafters. For beginners you will need first to familiarize yourself with the tools, techniques and the crafting itself.
Sometimes, we just want something to organize our pens and make it accessible all the time. For drawing artists, writers, & bloggers pens or pencils sometimes are hard to find. So with this, I created a leather pens or pencil holder that can be attached to the notebook so you can carry it with you. It can be carried along with your notebook so it will now be accessible all the time.
Let’s now make it:
STEP 1: GATHER YOUR TOOLS
For the tools you will need:
-Cutting tool (cutter)
-Elastic Fabric/bond
-Steel ruler
-Awl or wing divider (for marking leather)
-Edge beveler
-Slicker or canvas cloth
-Edge paint (optional) for quality edge finishes
-Prongs or pricking irons (5mm or 4mm)
-Waxed thread
-Needles
-Pattern (A4 FORMAT) "actual size" (pattern uploaded)
STEP 2: PATTERNS AND LEATHER
Now, download the free pattern for you to try. I always want to give back to the community by sharing this pattern. However, it is for personal use only. Print the pattern in a4 format, make sure that it is on “actual size”. There is also a test square size which is 2cm. Check that test square to see if your pattern is the actual size.
Cut your pattern in its shape and lay the pattern unto your leather. In this tutorial, I used a chrome tanned leather which is about 2.0mm or 5-6oz weight thickness.
In this step, you can place tape on the pattern and the leather or you can mark the leather using awl. Once you have cleared this step, you can now cut your leather pieces.
STEP 3: PUTTING THE NECESSARY ATTACHMENTS
After cutting your leather, now get your elastic fabric and MEASURE according to the notebook that you are having. Now that you have your elastic fabric, put a hole on the upper side of the leather - One part only.
On one size only, sew your elastic fabric to the leather using your waxed thread and needles.
STEP 4: SEW YOUR LEATHER PIECES
Then, get your wing divider or anything that can mark the leather. Mark your stitching line to the leather, then use your prong or chisels to put stitching holes on the leather. I used the 5mm round hole punch and measure 0.5mm on the edge of the leather.
Now ready your stitching, you will sew the whole part. Make sure to attach to the other end the elastic fabric. Once you’re done with the sewing.
STEP 5: POLISHING AND FINISHING YOUR LEATHER
Get your edge paint or anything that you are using for your edge finishes.
Apply edge paint on the edges of your leather, then sand it using 600-800 grit then add edge paint then sand again using 1000- 1500 grit, then put final coat of edge paint then apply tokonole or beeswax for shiny finishing. Use your slicker when you are finishing your edges. Do it according to your taste.
AND NOW YOU'RE DONE.

Now that you have finished creating this leather pen holder. You will now have organized pens and pencils. Your writing instruments will now be accessible as long as you attach this pen holder to your notebook.
You can share this tutorial to other crafters for them to learn how to make it.
