Let’s make a new wallet!

A leather flap wallet. The idea is to create a flap wallet with a minimalist feel that can stack up cards and cash. You will be needing the basic tools in crafting.

We will use a chrome tanned leather with 1.0 mm weight thickness. This can hold up to 3-5 cards and some cash notes.

STEP 1: GATHER YOUR TOOLS

STEP 2: GET YOUR PATTERN AND CUT IT ACCORDINGLY

I have uploaded the pattern for you to use. Just download and print the pattern in A4 Format. Make sure that it is on “actual size”. There is a test square size in the upper left hand corner of the pattern to check if your pattern is on point.

Go ahead, cut the pattern into its shape. Always be careful when you are cutting. Safety first is our priority. Now, we’re ready to go.

STEP 3: LAY YOUR PATTERN ON THE LEATHER

Place your pattern on your leather. Then mark your leather using an Awl (You can use any other tool to mark your leather), just mark it according to the pattern. It’s like drawing the pattern on the leather. Leaving a mark that you will cut later on.

STEP 4: CUT YOUR LEATHER and BEVEL YOUR EDGES

Now, using a steel ruler, and Cutter. Cut the shape of the pattern. Make sure that your cutter is sharp enough to cut those leather, since some leather has intact fibers that are hard to cut. Always remember to keep your hands safe.

Tip when cutting a leather is to have a strong grip on your cutter. You have to be consistent when cutting since this is an important step in all leather crafting.

Use your edge beveler, bevel the edges of your leather for a round edge.

STEP 5: PASTE TOGETHER YOUR LEATHER PIECES

Get your leather pieces and start gluing them. You can use double sided adhesive tape or leather glue itself.
Glue the two side part of the leather. Make sure to glue it firmly. Then glue the flap of it onto its base leather.

STEP 6: MARK YOUR STITCHING POINTS

Now using Groover, mark your stitching points. You can use awl and a ruler to mark your stitching points. Then using a prong and a hammer. Punch holes on your leather, this will be used for stitching.

STEP 7: START STITCHING

Get your needles and threads. Put one end of the thread to the needle and put the other end of the thread to the other needles so you will have two needles and one strip of thread.

Do your stitching unto the leather. I will not go through the step by step process of stitching leather since this will take time. I’m saddle stitching this leather to come up with a leather product.
