Hi, today we are going to be making a Kylo Ren Star Wars poster. This tutorial requires little to no Photoshop knowledge. Lets jump right into it!

Supplies

This tutorial requires:

Computer (recommended)

Mouse (recommended)

Wifi

Adding Kylo Ren...

Go ahead and open up Photopea (recommended). If you use Photoshop not everything I do in this tutorial will exactly mirror photoshop, but you are still able to do it. Find an image of Kylo Ren online. I chose a pre-cut picture of him. Copy that image and paste it into Photopea, and once you have done this you are ready to move o to the next step!

Adding Powder Explosion...

In your browser, look up powder explosion. Make sure you find a transparent image. Once you have found your image, copy and paste it into Photopea. Now you can move on to the next step.

Adding Color to Your Explosion...

Select the explosion that you just added. Select image at the top left of the page, in the drop down bar select adjustments, then select hue/saturation. In the hue/saturation tab, press on colorize and adjust the hue and saturation options until you get your desired color (I chose red).

Adding Mountains...

Open up a tab and search for "mountain png." Find an image with a transparent background then, copy and paste the image into Photopea. In the side menu make sure you drag this layer to the very bottom.

Decreasing the Brightness...

Select the night sky layer. In the top left of the screen select image, then adjustments, and once again hue/saturation. In the hue/saturation tab, select colorize then adjust the lightness of that layer until it is considerably darker than before. After you do this, do the same thing for the mountain layer:

- Image

- Adjustments

- Hue/Saturation

- Colorize

- Adjust the lightness

Adding Highlights...

Click on your Kylo Ren layer, and then you want to press on the half circle at the bottom right of the screen. From there press on image, adjustments, then hue/saturation. Click colorize, and adjust the hue, saturation, and lightness until Kylo Ren's body is a the color of your explosion. After that, click on the white box in the layer labeled: Hue/saturation one. Enter the command: Ctrl + Alt + G, then Ctrl + i. What that does is group the adjustment layer to the layer below it, and inverts the adjustment layer. The white box should now be black. Still having the black box selected use your brush tool to paint you highlights on Kylo Ren. Make sure your brush has the colors black and white selected (Color white adds, color black subtracts like an eraser).

Hot keys:

X = switch colors

Alt + right click and drag = Brush size and hardness

Ctrl + scroll wheel = left and right scroll

Alt + Scroll wheel = zoom

Darkening Kylo Ren...

*not required* Press image, adjustments, hue/saturation, and then decrease the lightness. That's all for this step!

Adding Lightsaber Glow...

Select on the powder explosion layer. Make sure your brush is the color red, and set your brush opacity to 15% Paint a bit of a glow on top of the lightsaber, making sure that you don't make the lines too thick.

(Alt + right click + drag upwards) Easy as that!

Adding Finishing Touches...

*not required*

Look up a Star wars logo and copy/paste it making sure that it's on the top layer. If you want it to glow as demonstrated, select the powder explosion layer, and make sure your brush is the color of your logo, and set your brush opacity to 15. Paint a bit of a glow on top of the logo, and boom you are done!

Congrats of making a Kylo Ren look Kool! 😃
